Dr. Merzak made a bold career move from a research scientist to embark on an exciting journey in innovation, technology transfer, and research for development (R4D). His unwavering commitment to co-creation and development of territorial socio-technical innovation systems has become a powerful tool for multi-stakeholder communities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement Net-Zero climate targets.

To facilitate this vision, Dr. Merzak’s Group has designed collaborative online platforms that enable social learning and co-creation of sustainable development and climate action roadmaps using community scenario planning methodologies. He believes that the power of “tacit knowledge,” “collective intelligence,” the “Wisdom of the Crowd,” and “systems thinking” can co-design better futures for communities, enterprises, territories, nations, and regions.

Dr. Merzak has been instrumental in catalyzing public-private partnerships and decentralized cooperation programs between Africa, the USA, and Europe. He is the founder of the International e-Gov Forum in Dubai in 2000 and the International Forum of Local Governments in Morocco in 2007, fostering digital and sustainable development projects between local governments worldwide.

Dr. Merzak also held a managerial position in a French biotech company and advised several private and public institutions in biotechnology. He organizes international B2B events/platforms worldwide of varying sizes in territorial development, digital transformation, biotechnology, environment and sustainable development, sustainable finance & investment, energy, agriculture, medicine, and exponential technologies.

In his academic life, Dr. Merzak has held teaching and research positions at the University of Paris-Saclay University, King’s College London-UK, and UAE University. He has won several awards and funds provided by prestigious international research funding agencies. He is the founder and board member of several international scientific societies and the author of several peer-reviewed articles in prestigious scientific journals.

Abderrahim Merzak has a Ph.D. in molecular and cellular biology of cancer from the Paris-Diderot University (Institut Curie) in 1992. He also holds a Master’s degree in Cellular & Molecular Oncogenesis and two Bachelor’s degrees in Molecular and Cell Biology and Genetics. Dr. Merzak is married and a father of three children.
